Frequently Asked Questions
About the JAG Engines' Ryobi string trimmer engine and conversion

Question: Why would I want to choose the Ryobi engine to convert to use on my Model Airplane? Answer: The Ryobi weedeater is a readily available, American made product that lends itself easily to conversion using standard household tools. The engine is well designed to last for hundreds of hours of operation. It is easy starting and runs extremely reliably
Question: What do I need to complete a conversion myself? Answer: If you start with an operational weed whacker, you will only need standard medium size screwdrivers, pliers and a crescent wrench.
Question: What sort of airplanes can be flown using a Ryobi conversion? Answer: This 31cc Gasoline engine is roughly equivalent to a ST 2500, Magnum 1.8 or a Saito 1.80. Although the design would determine the power requirement, we have used the Ryobi on airplanes such as the 8' Telemaster all the way up to a Meister Scale P-51
Question: What do I need to start this engine? Answer: Although it can be, and has been, hand started, we recommend any common heavy duty glow engine starter for the magneto version. If you convert over to the Electronic Ignition, you will only need a simple hand flip to start it.
